As most of you know, just as with technology, at times I dive my mind deeply into political and sociological topics. I was thinking about the relationship between modern communication networks such as the internet and social networks, and the global political awakening we have lived in recent years. Zbigniew Brezsinki said, “For the first time in all of human history mankind is politically awakened – that’s a total new reality – it has not been so for most of human history.” Like in any phenomenon there must be a climax point in this awakening’s chronology. So I used some of my own knowledge and research to find out when the climax point, of this revolutionary global political awakening, took place. I looked at the years of most accelerated increase of social media users, number of online newspapers, blogs, and internet readers.
If a political awakening is something socially contagious(in digital terms viral), then the accelerated growth points would point to the most viral moments. My conclusion was that developed countries reached the climax of their political awakening in the years between 2005-2015, and less developed countries from 2010-2019, in fact, many of them are still in their highest point. Such is the case for Mexico.
