Gaza Crisis: A Humanitarian Catastrophe

Over 52,400 Palestinians reported killed in Gaza since October 2023 – 1 in 44 people. Tragically, over 15,600 children are among the dead. Another 118,000 injured, and 1.9 million displaced, facing famine and disease.

Is this not a genocide? Observers cite widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure, obstructed aid leading to starvation. Is deliberate deprivation and destruction of livelihoods not a calculated act against a people’s existence?

The death toll, displacement, and reported rhetoric evoke historical genocides. The Genocide Convention outlines acts intended to destroy a group. Are relentless bombings, targeting civilians, and creating famine conditions not indicative of such intent?

As courts deliberate and accusations mount, the world watches the rising death toll. Yet, decisive global action is absent. How many more lives before the atrocities in Gaza are recognized and confronted by international justice? This inaction will stain the 21st century’s conscience.
